Another Minelab 8″ BBS Coil Saved

Sometimes a little work is needed to save a coil when you can longer get them and this last one was a clear example.

As you can see the coil has cracked in several places so the only way to fix this was to add epoxy to the coil and hope water has not gotten in to damage it.
The first thing to do is tape off the whole coil and level it out so the first layer of epoxy can be poured in and fill the cracks.

Once the first coat is cure, then I need to sand it down but the good news is, the cracks are totally sealed so one more solid coat should do it.

I will have a completely different method to this instead of the tape as it did not work as planned and there was more leakage and sanding as a result but I got a nice level coat on there.

Once it was fully sanded down and cleaned, I was able to paint the whole thing and call it a day. As a result it turned out really nice and the coil tested out great….phew, this coil was saved and I put a new coil cover on it for added protection.
